The Axim Sea Defence Project in the Western Region is expected to be completed in June 2021, more than a year ahead of schedule.
His Excellency President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the project to commence in September 2018 and was expected to be completed in September 2022. However, due to the Government’s commitment, the project will be completed this year ahead of the original completion date.
The 5km sea defence project will protect lives, properties and enhance livelihood such as fishing and other economic activities along the coastline.

The project, which also has a landing bay and many variations for the benefit of the people, will protect the Axim Fort as well and also reclaim about 25 meters into the sea.
Already, the residents of Axim are enjoying the benefits of the project. Calm has been restored and fishing activities are booming.

The project is being executed by Makam Plant Hire Limited, a Ghanaian Company.
