American Musician, Lil Nas X turned heads on the BET Awards 2021 in a dramatic Andrea Grossi gown.
He was center of attention before his performance with his two looks on the red carpet.
Any event where Lil Nas X is performing is automatically going to be a good time. The 2021 BET Awards, June 27th, was no exception.
Besides Cardi B announcing her pregnancy during her Migos feature, Lil Nas X first stole the show with his fashion statements-yes, plural-and then broke the internet with his performance of his most controversial song “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”.
Lil Nas X has never been one to shy away from internet-breaking styles, from his full-fledged drag tribute to Nicki Minaj to his highly controversial “Satan Shoes.”
During the event, the 22-year old Grammy-winner truly outdid himself in a dramatic oversized gown from young designer Andrea Grossi.
Though it looks like a 17th-century inspired skirt, the bottom half of the suit is actually a pair of pants. Lil Nas X also wore the designer’s matching corset and moto jacket.
The fabric of the clothing is said to be inspired by traditional toile, depicts themes of war and religion, as Grossi intended the pieces in this collection to “bring light to the problems of the 21st century”
But that wasn’t Lil Nas X’s only outfit of the evening; moments later, he reemerged on the carpet in a blinged-out, ’70s-style Richard Quinn pantsuit decorated with floral embroidery and crystal embellishments.
He accompanied his look with all-diamond everything, including sparkling studs, a simple band, and diamond grills.
His signature painted nails and platform boots provided the finishing touches.
Lil Nas X’s performance was a memorable one which stunned fans. His was styled with a golden ancient Egyptian theme.
The rapper and singer were seen in full Egypt-inspired dress, alongside his dancers and the perfectly themed stage.
Fans were excited to see that the star drew inspiration from Michael Jackson’s legendary ‘remember the time’ video.
Lil Nas X’s performance raised conversation as he ended the amazing performance by sharing a kiss with one of his male dancers.
in response to his performance, one tweeter user wrote: “DONT USE AFRICAN CULTURE FOR SH*TS LIKE THIS!!!!!!! RESPECT OUR ANCESTORS”
To which Lil Nas X replied: “y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture”.
Despite the negatives comments, Rapper Diddy publicly shared his thoughts, tweeting: “Lil Nas X did that!! Be fearless!!!”
