Accra Academy’s administration has admitted a Rastafarian as a student, according to reports.
A photo circulated on social media shows the Rasta student who is said to be called Lord Nii Amu Qyaye with full dreadlocks wearing the Accra Academy uniform. Accra Academy’s decision to accept students with dreadlocks contrasts with the Achimota School’s rejection of such students.
In a post sighted by Unitedshowbiz.com.gh on an Instagram page which seems to belongs to Accra Academy with the name Bleoofficial shared photos of one of its student who has dreadlocks. Below reads the post;
Dear Achimota School, Accra Academy accepts dreadlocks….Bleoobi @iamlordquaye
An Academy built for everyone. Nondiscriminatory. Not a school built by colonialists that continue to reinforce colonial narratives. A school that teaches you your identity. A proper school like Accra Academy. Bleoobi @iamlordquaye #dreadlocks#equalrights#achimota
We visited Lord Nii Amu Qyaye‘s Facebook page only to find out his bio reads; Model, Actor, MTN GH Brand Marketer, Entrepreneur, therefore making us believe he may be an old student.
Ras Aswad Nkrabeah, whose first-year son was denied admission today, expressed his disappointment on Facebook.
According to Ras Aswad Nkrabeah, his son was denied admission because the Ghana Education Service’s code of conduct prohibits the admission of students with dreadlocks.
Meanwhile, the parent has vowed to go to court to obtain redress.
