Mark Phillips

Mark Philips is a British Olympic gold medalist and an ex-serviceman in the British army. He is popularly known as the first and ex-husband of Princess Anne.

Princess Anne is the only daughter and second child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Princess Anne has been a Princess Royal since 1987 and is also the 17th in line to the succession of the British throne.

 Mark Philips was born on September 22, 1948, in London. Mark Philips had his elementary education at Stouts Hill Preparatory School before he proceeded to Marlborough College and then later to Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

Upon passing out from the Royal Military Academy, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards in July 1969.

Almost two years after his commissioning, Mark Philips was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 1971.

Within another two years after his promotion to Lieutenant, he was promoted again to the rank of acting Captain in early 1973 and on 14th November of the same year, he got married to Princess Anne.

In January 1974, Mark Philips was appointed as a personal aide to Queen Elizabeth II and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Captain in 1975.

Three years after becoming a Captain of the British Army, Mark Philips retired from the army on March 30, 1978.

Mark Philips and Princess Anne had a son, Peter Philips and a daughter, Zara Tindall together as a couple.                                                                                                                           

In August 1989, Mark Philips and Princess Anne announced to the public that they had intentions of separating as a couple due to the fact that their marriage was under pressure at the time.

On 23rd April 1992, they officially got divorced but had equal custody of their children.

Princess Anne got married the same year to Timothy Laurence but it took Mark Philips five years to finally move on and got married again in 1997.
