Popular Ghanaian music producer, DJ Rab confirmed dead after drowning in a beach

DJ Rab has been confirmed dead.

The news of his demise was made known on social media by Reggie Rockstone.

Social media users have expressed shock hearing of DJ Rab’s death.

News available to unitedshowbiz.com.gh indicates that Rab Bakari known professionally as DJ Rab, a popular music producer in Ghana as passed away.

The report has it that DJ Rab passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 6, 2022, after drowning at Busua Beach Resort in Ahanta West District of the Western Region in Ghana.

In a Facebook post, Reggie Rockstone eulogized DJ Rab and also shared a picture of him with prayer and heart emojis.

“DJ Rab is gone!” a Facebook post by content developer Nii Atakora Mensah read, to which DJ Ashmen replied: “Hiplife music has lost a pioneer.”

DJ Rab played a great role in the showbiz industry (that is in the creation of hiplife music which is the foundation of modern Ghanaian music) and has also contributed to several platforms such as Okay Africa and Africology. He has also worked for Universal Music Group (USA) for 10+ years in the past.

His last post on his Instagram handle has him in a picture at the Busua Beach Resort commemorating Ghana’s 65th Independence Day at the Asa Baako Music Festival and seen in a white t-shirt with a print of the Ghana Airways logo.

DJ Rab also worked as a policymaker for physical packaging, eCommerce and Digital workflow within Universal Music Group. He has served label groups such as Island Def Jam; Republic Records; Interscope Geffen A&M; Classics Label Group, Universal Music Group Nashville; The Verve Music Group and Capitol Label Group as a music-biz executive.

He hosted/participated in panels at SXSW Music (USA); Social Media Week (Nigeria); CMJ Music Marathon (USA); Cariforum EU Business Forum (Jamaica); Geekend (USA); Kenya Music Week; WOMEX (Europe); Ghana DJ Awards and AFRIMA (Africa).
