Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Etoo has revealed his readiness and plans to contest for the presidency of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
According to the four-time African best footballer in a social media announcement, he’s making this decision as a result of his love for his country, Cameroon, and passion for football.
He made this revelation on the 21st of September 2021 on Tuesday.
In his statement, “I am honoured and pleased to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the Cameroon Football Federation”
“After careful consideration, I have decided to take this initiative out of love for Cameroon and passion for our football” – He added.
Samuel Eto’o vowed to make changes in the Football radicals in Cameroon and as well as a progressive project that will grow the local championship, beach football and women’s football in the country.
The Fecafoot elections will take effect on the 11th of December 2021.
The football striker is, however, optimistic about standing on the same bridge to contest with his fellow football legend, Geremi Njitap, who is best known for his great performances as a Real Madrid midfielder.
Eto’o’s plans to run for the presidency of Cameroon football come amid controversy over whether candidates with dual citizenship should be allowed to contest for the seat.
Reports from the BBC state that when Eto’o was clocked at 40 years old, he was granted dual Spanish nationality in Barcelona.
Being a football player, it is evident that the Cameroon international football team is seen as one of the great exports from Africa when it comes to football.
He has also bagged domestic and European titles in both Spain and Italy and holds the record for Cameroon scorers with 56 goals in 118 games.
This is really a great deal.
