Two years ago, the board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) banned Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy indefinitely and stripped off all the awards they won after their clash on stage which resulted in Stonebwoy pulling out a gun.
A few days ago, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) announced its intentions to lift the ban on these two popular Ghanaian artistes ahead of the 2021 edition of the show.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and PRO at Charterhouse said a conversation on when to lift the ban ensued at the board’s inaugural meeting.
“It was in principle decided that the ban should be lifted,” Robert Klah told Andy Dosty, host of the show. He stated that Charterhouse will make an official announcement after the organisers meet with both artistes and their management teams to sort out outstanding issues.
Following this decision by the VGMA to lift the ban, Shatta Wale has reacted to it. In an exclusive chat with Peace FM, Shatta Wale did make the revelation that he has read about it in a news report and when asked what he thinks of it, he said there had to be some sort of deal or arrangement before he returned to the awards program.
“I don’t know about Stonebwoy, but I told him that every time Charterhouse wanted to bring us back, with the disgrace to which they set us up, they would have to negotiate with us,” he said.
“Because I as Shatta Wale, considering how far I’ve come in the music industry with so many achievements, I don’t know what rewards would bring me now. Because VGMA uses us to make money, and yet it dishonours us, ”he added.
“I never took advantage of this award, but they ended up putting me in a police cell,” he said. “They think they are playing with the kids,” Shatta Wale was furious.
Why They Were Banned
Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have where banned indefinitely from participating in the VGMAs after an altercation between them ruined the 2019 edition. The former rivals were also deprived of the awards they had won the night and asked to return the plates they had received. Since their altercation caused panic, many people fled the venue, so the organizers did not announce the Artiste of the Year award, in which both were nominated.
