The first thing you need to know about Holly Azevedo is that she has been called one of the most selfless Bruins in school history. She nearly threw a no-hitter before walking in the fifth inning.
However, she went on to ground out the next batter and end up striking out three Rebels to record her third career no-hitter.
During her collegiate career, Azevedo has posted a 1.86 ERA in 432 innings and has been mostly a secondary option for the Bruins’ pitching staff.
She has since taken a more prominent role with the graduation of fellow pitcher Holly Garcia. In the past season, Azevedo has pitched a career-high 126 innings.
In her first start in the WCWS, she struck out a batter in her first two innings, and her shutout on Sunday lowered her ERA to 1.22.
Azevedo has a rich history of accomplishments. In addition to UCLA softball, she played for the USA softball Juinor National Team and was a gold medal winner in the 2017 WBSC Junio Ladies’ World Championships.

In addition, she is the 18th UCLA softball pitcher to win 50 career games.
It’s important to note that the UCLA softball team has won six World Series titles and she is a member of the prestigious Pac-12 Conference.
After a stellar freshman season, Azevedo earned an honourable mention on the NFCA All-Region Second Team and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
Azevedo struck out nine in 44 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and four walks.
She also pitched two no-hitters in the same season in 2022, one against Arizona and one against California.
The No. 3 UCLA softball team opened their season against CSUN on Feb. 12. The Matadors have scored fewer than five runs just eight times this season.
The starting pitcher for the Bruins is likely to be Megan Faraimo, who threw the first two World Sequence video games.
She allowed just one earned run over two and third innings, striking out five.
After a strong sophomore season, Azevedo has been able to focus on the team’s WCWS run defence.
She has been a big part of UCLA’s team’s success, and her defence has been the backbone of the program’s offence.
She has been able to avoid the ball from a number of hitters and has helped the Bruins win their first-ever World Series game.
