Recently, Jack Dorsey stepped down as the CEO of Twitter and Parag Agrawal from IIT Bombay took over as the new CEO of the company.
Ever since the announcement was made, Parag Agrawal has been trending on social media.
His appointment follows the trend of top Tech platforms tapping on the expertise of an inside for the top job.
He previously served with the social media giant as its Chief Technology Officer. But who exactly is Parag Agrawal and what does his appointment mean for Twitter?

1. He has been with Twitter for more than a decade
Parag joined Twitter as a software engineer and in 2017 was promoted to its Chief Technology Officer. He oversaw Twitter’s technical strategy and is reputed for improving the pace of software development while advancing the use of machine learning across the company.

2. Youngest CEO
At 37, Parag is going to be the youngest CEO of an S&P 500 company.
3. Latest Indian-origin CEO
Before Parag, a number of Indians have held senior positions at big corporations. some of them include Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, and IBM’s Arvind Krishna. Parag appointment comes to add to this list.

Agrawal has a doctorate in philosophy in computer science from Standford Univerity.

Responding to a question on protecting free speech and fighting misinformation in an interview with the MIT Technology Review in 2020, Agrawal said “our (Twitter’s) role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation and our moves are reflective of things that we believe lead to a healthier public conversation.”
